Message from the club executive 19th September 2020   19/09/2020

Earlier today the executive of Cullion Hurling Club was faced with a very difficult decision with regard to whether or not it should permit the Senior Hurling Team to play this evening.

A range of views and opinions were expressed and the input of many people was sought before the decision not to play the game was made. What tipped the balance finally was the fact that the club could not put the outcome of a game of hurling, however serious it might be, before the Health and Welfare of its players, members and supporters. Regard was also had to the concerns of others including the health concerns of the players and supporters of Raharney and those of the volunteers from Ringtown who would have been assisting with parking and stewarding at the match venue.

The club would like to express its regret for any inconvenience that was caused by the decision not to play. It is hoped that when people reflect on the decision everybody will agree that Public Health concerns were rightly put first irrespective of what the outcome is.

The club would like to acknowledge the efforts of its COVID-19 Officer, Paddy Matthews and Dermot Broughan, Team Coordinator, throughout the day.
